The LSE Political Theory Group

LSE Political Theory Graduate Conference

The LSE Department of Government is pleased to announce its fourth Political Theory Graduate Conference to take place on 14th and 15th March 2019. The aim of the conference is to give graduate students working in the field of political theory (broadly conceived) an opportunity to present and discuss their projects with peers, receive feedback on work in progress, and build a wider community of graduate political theorists across the UK, Europe and beyond.

The conference will feature keynote addresses from Dr. John Filling (Kings College, Cambridge) and Dr. Zofia Stemplowska (Oxford).

Papers on any theme or topic within political theory and political philosophy will be considered. We encourage applications from women and other under-represented groups in these fields.

Deadline: 31st December 2018

Please send an abstract of no more than 500 words to: lsepotygradconf@gmail.com.

Do not place any identifying information in the abstract.

In the body of the e-mail, please detail your name, institutional affiliation and whether you wish to apply for a travel bursary - we have a limited budget based on need. If you do, please include also a brief paragraph describing your funding situation.

Acceptance notifications: late-January 2019.

All abstracts will undergo a double-blind review process.

Attendance is free of charge, and lunch and coffee will be served along with a complimentary dinner.

The Political theory faculty is part of the Department of Government at LSE, which is one of the largest political science departments in the UK. It has been central to the research and teaching at LSE since its founding in 1895. The Chair of Political Theory in the Department of Government has been held by a succession of internationally recognised political theorists: Graham Wallas, Harold Laski, Michael Oakeshott, Maurice Cranston and Brian Barry. Currently, there are seven political theorists in the Department of Government, which is one of the largest concentrations of specialists in the world.

Political theorists in the Department work in areas such as multiculturalism, ancient and medieval political thought, Locke, Kant, feminism, social choice theory and democracy, and contemporary theories of justice. Members of the Political Theory Group in the Department also contribute to the wider political theory community at LSE.
